This is the start of a new direction

Currently
The Age of Dreaming
By Nina Revoyr

I must tell you something. The relationship is over. Genalyn and I have seperated, ended the promise of marriage, and gone our seperate ways. Often, humans guide towards madness rather than logic. Often, we can't see the difference between the two. If you haven't heard the reasons why this seperation occured, this is not the place to ask. If necessary, I pass that information in private  Suffice it to say, we are not made for each other, and there is no point in reuniting.  We ended the relationship in mid February 2009. Yes, it was a horrid Valentine's day; then again, V-Day itself is a vapid concept, so that's no big loss.

My new direction is to create a written memory of my time in Philippines. I will post random events, memories, photos of my trip, and recall what I can, while I can. I have few people who talk to me and know these events personally. So, I must preserve a unique experience. If you are from the Philippines, have family there, have been there, please comment your experiences too. I want to know what you saw in the Philippines. We can compare notes.
Let's not focus on high praise (that's the job of Wow Philippines) and let's not trash the country. The loss of relationship and the madness of the world economy say there is less chance of returning to the Philippines, but I still keep my desire.

Does cultural difference matter? My Korean friend and my grad school classmate also broke up two days ago. Quite sad to hear these news...

Hmmm...any comment about the country? 98% of taxi drivers in Manila are A***HOLES. They're like vultures wanting to have a piece of every passenger's money. Whether you are a foreigner or a Filipino, they will take advantage of you whenever they get the chance to. They're so different from the cabbies outside Metro Manila. Traffic is also crazy because jeepney drivers just stop anytime and anywhere (even in the middle of the road) just to drop off or fetch passengers. I'm just glad that I live in Makati City. Things are more organized here and the place is clean.

Metro Manila assumes two things. If you are a foreigner, they assume you have money. Remember you paid 1,300 dollars for that round trip ticket? You can't travel without it, so of course you have money. And of the native Filipinos, who has the most money? Outside of politics, it's the Manileros. The culture difference makes comparison difficult, but Los Angeles to the midwest is similar to Manila to the provinces. I think crime is higher in Manila too.

Shangrila, Makati is very nice from what I saw. Ricky took me walking the streets there once. That's where his former boss has her busines. It is a match for anything in Indianapolis, but with potential to do more. I liked Muntinlupa , except for all the busted sidewalks. And Paranaque where all the Koreans live, their number one campaign issue is potable water. When I rode the tricycle through BF Homes, I saw the large campaign sign draped over a building wall. Near that sign was a confused racial reference for a restaraunt. It gave a phone number and advertised carry out with the slogan "JAPS TO GO!" . While the owner did not intend it, the sign reminded me of the Roosevelt era internment camps.
